Montana Tour de Cure Cycling Event to Raise Funds and Awareness for Diabetes

July 27, 2010

Cyclists are registering and training, teams are forming, and volunteers are organizing details for the second statewide Tour de Cure Montana on September 11, 2010. This fundraising event for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) will start and end at the Missouri Headwaters State Park near Three Forks, west of Bozeman. Bozeman Deaconess Hospital is proud to be a major sponsor of the event.

“The Tour is a great bicycle ride—not a race—and has distances for every level of rider: 6, 23, 56, or 100-miile routes, each with views of rivers and mountain ranges,” says Arlene Eliason, Bozeman Deaconess Diabetes Center coordinator and volunteer Tour coordinator. “All routes feature rest stops, food, support vehicles, and cheering fans. When you finish, you can enjoy live music, a tasty BBQ, a terrific massage, and other surprises. It’s a great way for family and friends to enjoy a healthy day together,” she says.

Last year, more than 40,000 cyclists in 80 Tour events in 43 states raised nearly $17 million to support the mission of the ADA: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Though last year’s event was the first statewide Tour for Montana, the nearly $90,000 raised by 248 riders and sponsors earned 62nd place among all of last year’s Tours.

Bozeman Deaconess Diabetes Center medical providers and staff will once again participate in the Montana Tour. Patients of the diabetes center are also getting in the action by riding or volunteering.

To learn more about the event, register, join a team or form one, go to and select state of Montana. For more information please contact Arlene Eliason at 556-5331.
