Healthcare Decision Making: Conversations, Goals and Planning

July 8, 2011

Countless families across the country have found themselves burdened with making difficult health care decisions for loved ones of all ages. Much of this could be prevented if people let their loved ones know their wishes in advance. While it may seem daunting to talk about these issues, not having these conversations can be just as intimidating if you consider the emotional impact on those who are forced to make these decisions for their loved ones.

Join medical director Dr. Kathryn Borgenicht and the staff at Bozeman Deaconess Palliative Care Consultants for an enlightening discussion on planning, setting goals for your plan of care and navigating difficult conversations with your family and caretakers. They’ll teach participants how to take an active role in their future care and to ask questions and state their wishes to healthcare providers and loved ones. The simple act of having this discussion can turn out to be an incredible gift for loved ones in the event of an accident or severe illness.

Bozeman Deaconess Palliative Care Consultants provides care to patients and family members when pain and other symptoms impair quality of life. The team of physicians, nurses, social workers, pastoral counselors, bereavement counselors, volunteers and other healthcare professionals focuses on relieving pain and other distressing symptoms of patients with acute or chronic illnesses and are experienced in managing many of the symptoms that accompany serious illnesses.

Please join Dr. Borgenicht and the Palliative Care Consultants team on Wednesday, July 13 at 7:30 pm in the Bozeman Library. For more information call the Bozeman Deaconess Health Information Center at 406-522-1644.
