ACT NOW: Numbers Impressive for First Round Participants

July 21, 2011

Bozeman Deaconess Diabetes Center’s first round of ACT NOW participants have completed weekly lifestyle classes and will begin a once a month, six month follow up program. Results to date include an overall weight reduction of 6%. Diabetes Center Coordinator Arlene Eliason, RD, CME says, “We expect that all patients will meet 7% weight loss once they complete the six monthly follow up classes.” She also reports that for those in the study for whom they received beginning and ending lab data, there was a reduction of 5.38% in systolic blood pressure; reduction of 7.44% LDL cholesterol; 5.08% reduction of Triglycerides; and fasting blood glucose reduction of 1.38%.

People who lose 7% percent of their body weight, maintain that weight loss, and integrate 150 minutes of moderate physical activity a week into their lives can reduce the risk of developing diabetes by 58%.
Sold on the idea? Sign up for next ACT NOW class that begins on Thursday, July 28 at 5:30 pm. Clinical Dietitian Lindsay Kay Kordick, who teaches ACT NOW, says benefits of the program include personal lifestyle coaching to help ensure success, 4 month membership to The Ridge Athletic Club and lab work at 16 weeks and six months.
